Alma Beneke Sasse was born in Brunswick, Missouri, to Dora and Frederick Sasse. She attended Vassar from 1911-12, and then the University of Missouri until her graduation in 1915. Sasse was active in the suffragist movement and published *A Hand Book for Republican Women* (1920). Alma went on to publish *The Mystery of the Chinese Box* (1939) and *Terry Carvel’s Theater Caravan* (1943), both of which are set in the Pacific Northwest.
