Chandra Coats is a transracial adoptee, originally from Kolkata, West Bengal, and raised in Southern California. She is now a stay-at-home parent but has worked in advocacy for children, sexual assault survivors, and immigrants. She is married to her husband Dan, a friend since childhood. She is of a confessional Reformed Christian faith and is a political independent.
