Joseph D. Bates, Jr.

Joseph D. Bates, Jr. (August 7, 1903 - September 3, 1988) was an American angling author. He has been called one of the most prolific fishing authors of all time.[1] He spent about a half century writing and, after his passing, noted one writer, “Joe Bates’ memorials are on the library shelves of several million angling fans."[2] A native of West Springfield, Massachusetts, he gained prominence with his 1947 book Spinning for American Game Fish.
