A 6th-century British monk best known for his scathing religious polemic <i>De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae</i>, which recounts the history of the Britons before and during the coming of the Saxons (<a href=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gildas>Wikipedia</a>).
