Wynifred Staples Smith

Wynifred Ethel Staples born September 17, 188, Carthage, Franklin, Maine. Daughter of Eugene "Happy Gene" Hale Staples, Champion Maine Fiddle, and Pamelia Sanborn. She studied voice and made a number of recordings in performance with her father, Eugene. She married Frederick Wilhelm Smith February 17, 1901. They had one daughter. Wynifred died March 02, 1968 in Rumford, Oxford, Maine. Both she and her father continued to maintain folk traditions and she preserved many stories and songs.
