The rector and his wife take the mysterious woman in, even though she cannot remember her name or what she was ru nning away from. Taking the name Beth, she becomes the local school mistress, but always remembers the handsome lord who saved her. When he returns from the war, he starts to find himself attracted to her, to the point that he hopes he can persuade her to marry him.
