An ageing assassin with an eye for the ladies: to Elsa Mallin he is pathetic. But when the lady on whom the eye falls is Elsa herself, the situation becomes positively unnerving. It is time to run, especially as there is a murder and a kidnapping in the background. But too many people are relying on Elsa by this time, including both the kidnap gang and the victims. The situation requires delicate handling of all concerned, but Elsa has to deal with a set of wild and woolly characters, who know more about handling than she does. The result becomes a question of survival, and whose. And where are the thirty-seven tons of steel - where, indeed, is the ransom money, all two hundredweight of it?
