Northern Bukowina became part of Chernivtsi oblast in the Ukraine, while the southern portion remained in Romania as part of Suceava. Galicia was ruled by Austria from 1772-1919, by Poland from 1920-1939, and by the Soviet Union afyter 1946. It now comprises L'viv, Ivano-Frankivs'k and Ternopil oblasts, Ukraine.
