In the early 60's, Valeriy Tarsis was placed in a mental institution in the Soviet Union as a result of his novel The Bluebottle being published in the West. Ward 7 is a semi-autobiographical novel of his experience in this mental ward and the "other patients" [who] were caught up in this system because of their opposition to Communism. --George I.
