Pirkei Avot, the Ethics of the Fathers, is the supreme collection of moral teachings from which all Jewish works of ethics have flowed. Rabbi Shlomo Toperoff has created a complete study volume, encompassing the entire tractate of Avot from the Mishnah in the original Hebrew and in a contemporary translation, commentary culled from the rich store of rabbinic literature, and related stories from the hasidic tradition that further explain the themes of the rabbis' teachings. Rabbi Toperoff's collection of relevant commentary explains the content of the formative work for the new reader. The hasidic stories that end each section relate thematically to rabbinic teaching, further illuminating the ethical message the rabbis wish to impart. In addition, extensive notes will help the reader to understand the general language and structure of the Mishnah, thereby aiding the study of other tractates.
