The story takes place in Orange, Texas, and Eunice, Louisiana. It is about a man named Robert who moved to Eunice, Louisiana, after getting laid off as a janitor in Orange, Texas. During his stay in Louisiana, he rents an apartment and notices a man he used to work with. Days after staying in the apartments, a shot is heard. Robert knows that he has to get away and not speak with the police officers, but then he makes a last-minute decision to stay and try to find out who the killer is. The story is a mystery waiting to unfold before the reader’s eyes.
