When pine was king

A light and entertaining popular history of the timber industry in the upper peninsula. Strictly speaking it is a little outside the theme of this website, which covers Michigan history until the middle of the 19th century. However, the timber industry in the U.P. at the end of the century still resembled the timber industry in the Lower Peninsula as it was at mid-century.
