Sobre este livro

*Bread into Roses* is the story of Susannah Farjeon, from the dreadful moment in the Far East when her dreams of happiness seem shattered, through days of wealth and power, to the time when she finds love and peace at last. Susannah has had far from a usual life. At the time of her father's death, in Peking, she is one of the most flattered and courted young women of the American colony; she is beautiful, full of the enthusiasm of youth, and has a sincerity which distinguishes her in the superficial life around her. And on the boat returning to America, trying to forget the blow of a broken engagement, she meets Alec, whom she marries. Then comes the fear that is to haunt Susannah, fear because Alec has turned out to be not the unimportant mining engineer she thought, but someone entirely different. And she is afraid for her marriage... that it will not be an *always* marriage, the only kind her love and sincerity could ever accept. How Alec does forget his marriage vows; how another man, understanding, charming, comes into her life and she grows to love him; all this, together with the problems that beset any young new-married couple, the small joys, the great tragedies, make up this new romance. It is a story rich in emotion, and in the appealing details of real life.
